Whilst we don’t know when overseas travel will resume, one thing is for sure, Canberra gets cold around ANZAC day and we supposedly can’t turn our heaters on until then.

“You can’t turn on the heater until ANZAC Day”. Whilst the rule is well known, its origin appears to remain a mystery.

So where does this very Canberra centric rule originate from?

Theories range from alignment with military uniform seasonal changes to homestead fires that would be lit on ANZAC day and burn right through to the October long weekend. Maybe one of these theories is correct, maybe someone just made it up and we’ve all followed along!

Regardless of the origin of the rule, keeping the heater off until ANZAC in many homes is a challenge and without the right insulation, most homes won’t last.

Ask around and you’ll find many a Canberran who succumbs to the chilly Autumn mornings and cranks up the heating prematurely. This is a real shame because although Canberra is cold, your home doesn’t have to be.

With the right insulation, heating isn’t needed in Canberra until temperatures really start to drop. This means the energy bills stay low and comfort levels stay high throughout the shoulder seasons of Autumn and Spring. When the cold weather does hit and the heater finally goes on, it will run for less time and cost less money to maintain that toasty warm feeling all Winter long.

So if you can’t see yourself making it to ANZAC day without switching on the heater, that’s a good sign that it’s time to look at your insulation. Get in now before the Winter rush to ensure that when the temperature drops your comfort levels stay high.

Get in touch to see how we can make your Canberra home better prepared for Winter today with the right insulation.
